The Battle of Crossgar took place in 1849 when over 3000 Ribbonmen from South Down descended into Crossgar. The defence of Killyleagh Street by the local orangemen resulted in a deadly riot. Within a year, all parades in Ireland were banned, but not before retaliation at Dolly’s Brae.
