HISTORY
This band was formed in 2020 with a combination of ex members of the now defunct Sharpshooters FB from East Belfast, Blackskull Fifes & Drums members as well as Young Loyalist FB from Pollok in Glasgow and the City of Belfast Fife’s and Drums with the intention of raising money for the Northern Ireland Hospice .
In 2020 they managed to raise £1,690 pounds which was greatly received by the Hospice. In 2021 they decided to try and raise money for the Hospice, along with two mental health charities, namely Light of Foot and Chris’s House in Lanarkshire, Scotland.
Up to and including the 12th of July 2021, a total of £4,920 was raised and they decided to donate £1,690 to the Hospice once again and give Light of Foot and Chris’s House £1,500 each. This left £230, and they agreed to send this to “poundsforpoppy” to help a 9 year old girl from East Belfast who was diagnosed with cancer in January 2021.
Poppy lives in the Cregagh estate where the famous footballer George Best grew up, and her dad is a member of Gertrude Star FB from East Belfast. “The Gert” decided to wear yellow ribbons on their uniforms for The Twelfth, and a host of bands and lodges in Belfast followed suit in support of that brave little girl. South Belfast Young Conquerors FB also held a fundraising initiative and collected a whopping £5,000 for “poundsforpoppy”.
ESYLFD received more donations after The Twelfth, with a further £420 being set aside for the Hospice, bringing that total to £2,110 and £70 being put into the “poundsforpoppy” appeal at the donor’s request, to bring that total up to £300. A grand total of £5,410 was raised because of the hard work and effort of those lads, coupled with the generosity of the PUL community.
