- Plumbridge Pipe
Plumbridge Pipe Band is one of only a few Brien Boru or Key chanter bands left in Ulster. The Brien Boru Bagpipes were invented by William O’Duane from Dungannon in 1908 and manufactured by London based Bagpipe maker Henry Starck. The Brien Boru Bagpipes were adopted by a number of Irish regiments in the British Army including the Royal Inniskilling Fusiliers. After the 2nd World War a number of bands adopted the Brien Boru Bagpipes and they became very popular during the 1950’sOriginally a Flute band was based in Plumbridge, however after the First World War a Highland Pipe Band was formed and then reformed in 1947 with the help of two members of the Royal Inniskilling Fusiliers based in Omagh and Plumbridge Pipe Band adopted the Brien Boru Bagpipes.Over 15 years ago the band purchased new custom made Brien Boru bagpipe from McCallum Bagpipes in Scotland. The band also purchased plastic Brien Boru Chanters via Beat Street. The band has in recent years purchased a new uniform based on the Isle of Skye Tartan selected as its colours reflect the mountains of the Plum. Our band is very much a family band and we are all looking forward to 2022 when we will celebrate our 75th anniversary.
