Ulster Bands Forum ("we", "us", "our") operates the UBF Calendar mobile and web application (the "App"). This policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and your rights in relation to it.

1. Information We Collect

Location data. When you use the "Near me" feature, the App requests your device's GPS location. This data is used only to sort nearby events on your screen and is never transmitted to our servers or stored.

Search queries. When you use Smart Search, your search text is sent to a server-side function to interpret your query. Search text is not linked to any personal identifier and is not retained after the response is returned.

Event and calendar data. The App displays publicly available information about parades and band events (dates, locations, organisers). This information is held in our database and is not personal data.

No account required. Ordinary users of the App do not need to create an account, and we do not collect names, email addresses, or any other personal information from general users.

2. How We Use Information

To display events relevant to your location (Near me feature — on-device only)
To interpret and respond to natural-language search queries
To ensure the App functions correctly

We do not sell, rent, or share personal information with third parties for marketing purposes.

3. Third-Party Services

The App uses the following third-party services, each governed by their own privacy policies:

Supabase – database and backend hosting (supabase.com/privacy)
Nominatim / OpenStreetMap – used to look up locations for route mapping (OSM Privacy Policy)
OSRM – open-source routing engine used to generate parade route maps

4. Cookies and Local Storage

The App may store small amounts of data in your browser's local storage to remember your preferences (such as your last-viewed tab). No advertising or tracking cookies are used.

5. Children's Privacy

The App is not directed at children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children.

6. Data Security

We take reasonable technical measures to protect any data held in our systems. However, no method of transmission over the internet is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.

7. Your Rights

As we collect minimal personal data, there is generally little personal information held about you. If you have concerns about data we may hold, or wish to make a subject access request, please contact us at the address below.

8. Changes to This Policy

We may update this privacy policy from time to time. The "Last updated" date at the top of this page will reflect any changes. Continued use of the App after changes are posted constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
