I am a family historian for the Wadds and Brett family. My Great Grandfather George Wadds was employed as gardener, then Head gardener and finally as the Landsman at Castle Dobbs. He organized the Orange Lodge in Carrickfergus, the “Kilroot True Blues LOL Lodge 1544”. He became the Worshipful Master until leaving for Canada. In April 1877 he sold all their household goods and emigrated to Barrie Ontario Canada were he joined the local lodge. If interested I will share the details I have collected. ie I have a clipping of the “Belfast Weekly News” describing his last Lodge meeting. He was presented with an ornate Bible. I have also written his Life Story. His children born in N Ireland were early western Canadian successful settlers. He was a big man who raised tough successful boys, 1, James was a 12 year old Bugler in the Queens own Rifles fighting at the Reil Rebellion in Saskatchewan. As a young man I often found him doing well in shooting contests. Another son, William rode horseback on an 11 day ride through wilderness from a small mining town in the wilds of British Columbia to the sea port Vancouver to marry.
