Derryloran Boyne Defenders Cookstown have released “Volume 3” their newest CD, although truth be told it’s their second CD as the first release dating back to 1991 was released as a tape some 32 years ago.
2010 saw the release of their second album and fast forward to 2023 sees the band celebrate their 55th anniversary with the release of “Volume 3” undoubtedly their best album yet with a mix of traditional, melody and jig sets.
Those of you who still have the first tape will notice several tunes such as “Enniskillen” and “Purple Banner” have made their way onto the third CD, still being played some 30+ years later albeit adapted over the years to keep in line with the ever changing trends in the band scene.
Derryloran have always been renowned for their unique style, and this CD is sure to feature something for everybody.
The melody enthusiasts will enjoy the bands rendition of “Life on the Ocean Wave” Flute connoisseurs will appreciate the impeccable second fluting in “Tartan Medley” and “Jigs” and several new tunes in “Wolverhampton Town” and “Bold Orange Heroes” are new for the CD release having never been played in concert or on the road by the band.
This CD is surely a must have for any enthusiast of the band scene here in Northern Ireland and is released to coincide with their 55th Anniversary Parade in Cookstown on Saturday 8th July 2023.
