

LOL 1539 McKinley Memorial
Hi everyone, McKinley Memorial LOL 1539 have a fantastic evening coming up on Friday 10th March at 7.30pm.A collection will be held on the night to raise funds for a defibrillator for Enniskillen District Hall.Two men Eric Glass QGM DCM and Ken Funston are coming along to share their stories.Eric is a former member of the USC and the UDR. He is a lifelong member of LOL 450, Maguiresbridge. In 1978 he was shot and wounded by PIRA in Garrison, while driving a council van. He was awarded the QGM (Queens gallantry medal) for his bravery during this attack.In 1992 while attending a bogus call in his capacity as a dog warden in Belleek he was again attacked by PIRA, receiving serious injuries. He repelled his attackers who fled the scene. For his bravery during this incident he was awarded the DCM (Distinguished Conduct medal). This award is second only to the Victoria Cross.Eric will talk about both attacks in detail.Ken is a former Royal Marine commando and Falklands war veteran. After leaving the marines he served in the RUC & PSNI, reaching the rank of Sergeant. Ken’s brother, Ronnie was murdered by PIRA on 13/03/84 while driving a tractor on the family farm in Pettigo. Ken also worked for SEFF for many years as advocacy manager. He has recently completed a PHD on “Border Protestants & Republican violence”.All support will greatly appreciated.
