HISTORY
Formed in 1864 the first Worshipful Master being a Bro Docherty. The Belfast Harbour drew its membership from the employees of the Harbour estate. Early records revealed the lodge met in College Street Orange Hall until it moved to Belfast Orange Hall Clifton Street in 1885. In its early years the lodge held annual soirees which comprised of a dinner dance after their installation these being reported on in the newspapers of the time.
In 1912 the lodge paraded from Ligonel Twelfth field with straw boaters and their new banner displaying the Harbour Commissioners offices accompanied by the Jennymount Flute Band.
In 1932 a new banner was unveiled in Packenham Street in memory of W.Bro Henry Caddell one of our early WMs who was a prominent member of the lodge. Other members who could not go unmentioned are Bro Issac Montgomery and Bro John McGran who were lodge Secretaries for many years and whos tireless work and dedication to the lodge is much respected by our Brethern. The goodwork continues with Johns son Neil now being Secretary of the Lodge.
On parade the lodge wears the Derry Crimson collarette and for years a black bow tie, more recently the bow tie was replaced with a lodge tie with the rope and anchor. Traditionally a family lodge were many grandfathers sons and grandsons have joined we leave the masters house every 12th of July. Membership is smaller today but the enthusiasm and vigour of our membership remains.
We welcome new members who wish to join one of the oldest lodges in The Belfast County. Details are available on our Facebook site.
